Alcohol and Drug Services
Our clinical staff are trained and certified to provide best practice outpatient treatment to people with substance use disorders. Our treatment philosophy is based on the belief that addiction is a disease and that abstinence is a necessary first step in managing the condition. We approach treatment from a holistic perspective as we view mind, body, and spirit as components of a healthy life.
We work with adults and adolescents who have mild to severe alcohol or drug use disorders including those with co-occurring mental health issues. These disorders affect individuals and families' biological, psychological, social, cultural and spiritual lives and we engage and support those seeking recovery in all of these dimensions.
Research shows that only about 10 percent of those experiencing a substance use disorder end up receiving alcohol or drug treatment. CHS delivers services in a range of settings within diverse populations and communities across northern Lower Michigan. We partner with court systems as well as medical agencies to provide substance abuse services onsite at courthouses and medical clinics, increasing access to services for people who may not have reliable transportation.
Our staff use best practice approaches - including education, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy - and deliver services in both individual and group settings. Clinicians provide specialized treatment to drug and sobriety court programs throughout the region and serve as treatment representatives on those drug and sobriety court teams. Several clinicians are providers for the Health Professionals Recovery Program and provide specialized treatment to health professionals experiencing substance use and/or mental health disorders.
Outpatient treatment at CHS focuses on supporting individuals and their choices as they build recovery in their own lives. We encourage and support involvement in the recovery community and our services fully complement those involved in 12 Step programs.
Our Alcohol and Drugs Services program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an international accrediting body based in Tucson, Arizona, and licensed by the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
